About me

Keila Cristina Nicolau Mota, PhD in Tourism and Hospitality

united states flag My education includes a Bachelor in Tourism (1991), a Master Science in Administration (1999), a Doctorate in Tourism and Hospitality (2005), a Doctorate in Administration and Tourism (2011), a Post-Doctoral Study in Tourism and Hospitality (2013) and a Culinary Arts and Operations (Chef) at Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts (2021).

I have been blessed in my life to get a full scholarship for my master science and my PhD; I also got both scholarship and grand for my Post doctorial study.

I have more than 20 years of experience in education in both in-class and online instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I have been consultant for the Ministry of Education in Brazil for about 13 years, where checked the level of education and the accreditation of the courses and curriculum in Tourism and Hospitality.

Worked as a Full Professor, I contributed to curriculum development, advised many undergraduate and graduate students research and wrote several papers for scientific journals, conferences and academic books. I have written books and chapters focusing on Tourism planning and development, Tourism business and marketing for Tourism and Hospitality.

My first book, published in 2001, titled Marketing in Tourism, analyzes the way the small and medium hotels in Brazil communicate their business to the clients. Another book, published in 2013, titled Competitiveness of Tourism Destination, analyzed a community development based on sustainable tourism where tourism helped to keep or increase the quality life of the residents in three different tourism destinations.

I also created a seminar called Tourism Talk Show, in 2013, for the graduate students of the course in Tourism and Hospitality (Especialização semi-presencial em Turismo e Hospitalidade), to present this book and promote knowledge for the undergraduate and graduate students at the Federal Institute of Ceará, in Brazil. We invited the Top 10 PhD professors in tourism in Brazil, so this seminar had 400 people twice in the audience, in two different days. I also promoted the charity in this event, because the students have to bring 1kg of food in order to pay for their subscription. This way, we donated almost 800kg of rice, bean and milk for the community school.

I have experience with e-learning and online class. I have taught and have written three books for an e-learning program and also act as professor, called “professora formadora”, taking care of the e-learning teachers and students in different subjects in tourism and hotel management. I have developed the pedagogical project for the e-learning tourism program , coordinated and taught at the Post-graduate semi distance course in Tourism and Hospitality. This project promoted raising found for educate about 80 teachers. As the result, all of them had scholarship for one year course, including transportation, hotel, food and books.

I have taught (2002-2023) at the class and advise, by distance, master students at the Ceará State University and many of them have successfully finished their studies every year under my responsibility in the Master Program on Tourism Management.

My ability to teach and research with culturally-diverse populations, have grown in the last 15 years, when I have traveled to different countries around the world including Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Italy, France, German, British Virgin Island, Mexico, Argentina, Paraguai, Uruguai, Peru, Chile and USA, where I live now since 2014. Personally, I understand the differences and nuances of different cultures and  I speak Portuguese, Spanish and English fluently.

In one of  my trip to Brazil in 2015, of my own initiative, I helped create an international partnership agreement between USA/ASU-BRAZIL/IFCE. The Federal Institute of Education in State of Ceará (IFCE) has more than 23 campuses and 22 distance learning poles and with partnerships in about 20 countries, however, this is the first time it has partnered with a university in the United States.

I believe that the education is my mission and I am very blessed to follow it.
